Hey Internets,
I did a bit of painting and thought I'd share it on here.
I've recently gotten myself a copy of 'Savage Worlds', the Miniatures Role Playing Game, and have started picking out miniatures from my old projects for re-use. My ability to paint has come on somewhat over the last decade, so I'm giving these figures a pretty substantial 're-vamp' to bring them in line with stuff that I have painted more recently as part of my post-apoc project. I thought that doing this would be a simple matter of adding an extra layer of highlighting here and there, but as it turns out, I used to be really bad at painting, and all of the figures I am currently working on are being virtually re-painted.
As far as I can remember this figure is some kind of Imperial Guard character produced by Games Workshop a while back. I've painted him up in the colours of a Sci-fi Cartel Boss, as I think that a few sessions doing deals with, or dealing with, the crime lords of the Den and New Reno could make for some fun roleplaying. I know I've got some other Copplestone Castings gangsters lurking in the lead pile somewhere, so expect to see those painted up on here soon.

Zomtober 2013: Week 2
Hey Internets,
Here's my offerings for the second week of 'Zomtober 2013'. I've been a bit preoccupied this week, so I haven't managed as much as last time, but I'got something to show at least.
As I said in last weeks Zomtober Post, I am neither a 'zombie' gamer, nor do I have anything in the way of a backlog of living dead to get painted up....so I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel a little.
Anyway, without further adieu....
"Secretly preserved immediately after his 'death' in 1945, the remains of the Fuhrer were transported, by aeroplane, to the last of the secret German naval bases remaining operational in the eastern Baltic, before being transported once more, this time by submarine, to Buenos Aires.
As time took the lives of the last of the German escapees, the remains of the Fuhrer moved into private ownership - proving priceless on the black market to 'collectors' sympathetic towards certain political ideas.
It was not long before it passed into the hands of a man who's immorality nearly matched that the former Fuhrer himself, and an attempt at resurrection was made. The result was a monster."
So this one is not a zombie, or is it?
Horror is generally all about context. Not every zombie has to be a blood soaked, arm failing loon to be scary. In fact their are so many of those knocking about that they really are not that scary at all. I think that the idea of a member of the living dead cradling a child to be kinda spooky, don't you?
This figure is from Black Cat bases. Its not the best sculpt in the world, but its got plenty of character and painted up nice and quick.

Zomtober 2013: Week 1
Hey Internets,
Whilst mucking about on-line I came across an interesting tit-bit on the Lead Adventure Forum. A chap called 'leonmallett' was giving people the opportunity to join in with 'Zomtober', a month long painting challenge with a zombie theme. Being a nilly-muggins I've signed up to join in.
The rules, as I've understood them, are simple. Paint one or more Zombie or Survivor model a week and upload the pictures before the deadline. Easy.
I never seem get anything painted, and even more never upload anything on this here blog of mine - so at the very least this group painting project should give me a nice kick up the arse to get some stuff done. Might be fun too, you never know.
Anyway, without any further adieu here is my first entry for Zomtober 2013.
^ Ten assorted Zombies.
I've never been into 'Zombie Gaming', so unlike the vast majority of wargamers I know, both my figure cases and lead-pile have long been free of the un-dead menace. This, combined with my vow not to buy any more miniatures until I've cleared my substantial backlog, made even finding a zombie to paint a bit of a challenge, but somehow I've managed to find ten of the buggers.
^ Most are plastic zombies that I found on a sprue in my spares box. God knows where they came from. I cant remember buying them, and their is only one and a half sprues of them. Weird. The detail on them is a very soft, and they are made of plastic - somthing that I'm never happy about - but I think they look at least passable with a little lick of paint.
^ Two more are repainted Hero/HorrorClix models that I managed to dig out. The pain and frustration involved in removing mould lines from bendy, flaky, rubbery models is something that I don't want to have to experience again for some time to come.
^ The last two are random 'Civilian' models that I picked up an age ago from Black Cat Bases a few years ago and never did anything with. The sculpts are not great, particularly in respects to the lady with the shopping bags, who has the largest head in the world, but they have a charm to them and will make fine additions to the shambling horde.
The highlight of the week was getting to whip out the 'Tamiya Clear Red' to do all the blood effects. There's nothing better than getting out a big brush and slapping a load of the stuff all over a model you've just spent ages painstakingly highlighting.
Whatta' you think?

Whether the Weather be hot, Whether the Weather be ROBOT
Good afternoon 'The Internet',
I'm waiting for my 12mm Cold War stuff to turn up so I can throw myself into that little project, but cursed by my nature I felt like painting something last night. I didn't want to set off on a new project that would inevitably take my butterfly mind off the cold war stuff, so I just rusted and weathered up my model of Liberty Prime.
Its just a few washes of Rusty Brown and Orange mixed with some brown ink, applied liberally to the effected areas. I've tried to hide the terrible split lines and awful bits of sculpting on the model by making them features, marking them out with a crusty-rusty outline.
I might do something with the eye yet, give it a 'pupil' like GORT has in 'The Day the Earth Stood Still'. Not sure yet.

"Liberty Prime is online.
All systems nominal.
Weapons hot. Mission: the destruction of any and all Chinese communists."

Unit 14 - Done!
Unit 14 - Painted
Hey Internet,
This is just a very quick post before I go to bed, showing the fully painted version of my most recent Fallout character Unit 14.

The Lighting is awful, and the base still needs to be finished, but Ive posted it up anyway. Why you may (but probably wont) ask did I not wait till tomorrow to take the photos and do this post, you know, with its good lighting and all?

Well, simply, I never, ever have the enthusiasm to quickly see a project though to the end in a short space of time. Seriously, If I know that there is a game coming up, it best be at least a month or two in advance for me to have any slither of a change of getting stuff ready for it. But, oh no, not this time. About a week ago I swapped some figures for this one with a nice chap in Norway, and the day after it got to my door, here it is, all painted up and nice like. I'm even going to make an effort to Stat the guy up tomorrow (for Fallout PnP).
So yeah, Robots.
But wait, that's not all!
I also got two 'Robbietrons' painted up. These are god awful miniatures from Black Cat Bases, that I love dearly. I mean, really, the sculpting is really truly dreadful, especially the total lack of strait lines, the finger prints, random divots &c, but for some reason I find them incredibly charming. I think I have 4 more somewhere waiting for a lick of paint. I'll do them as something other than this 'military' paint scheme.

Anyway, I'm off to bed, enjoy my shiny green and chrome robots.

Unit 14
Hello Internet,
As some of you know by now, I suffer from a terrible, debilitating illness. Whenever I get into a video game, even a little bit, I end up trying to model the characters from it. This is most noticeable with my minor addition to the Fallout series.
So anyway, we are back in the quagmire again, with me trying to model my character from the game, 'Unit 14'.

For those who play the game and have any sort of idea of what I am nattering on about, Unit 14 is a robot character, the one from this mod [http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/43732] armed with a Tommy Gun. From time to time he also makes use of a huge array of cool guns that he finds laying about near bodies, and bombs, lots of bombs.
I have already located the model that I will use for the basis, an AE:WWII 'American Robot Trooper'. The model looks pretty damned close to what I'm hoping to achieve so little or perhaps no conversion work will be needed, just a snazzy paint-job.
I've even found a chap in Norway who is happy to swap a few bits for my desired figure. Hurrah!

Waste-landers and Raiders [Part 4]
Hey all.
Some more Post-Apocalyptic types. Enjoy!
Wasteland Sniper
First up an old GW figure. I painted it forever-ago, and have recently re-based it onto a hex. I rather like the figure.

Mr. Buttonsworth esq.
Next is a figure I converted for a RPG session. The Story was that he was a Millitary Robot that repaired itself with parts from a Museam Tourguide robot, resulting in him having delusions of being a kind-hearted Victorian String factory owner - determined to protect and look after the workers* in his factory**, with his revolver***.
* The workers were a bunch of Wastelanders who lived with his delusions due to the protection and food that he provided.
** His 'factory' was in fact a bunch of ruined buildings. The robot spent most of his time at his 'desk' in his 'office'....he stood in the middle of a ruined room.
*** His revolver was in fact a powerful laser cannon, which he insisted on reloading every six shots. You cant really reload the laser in question, so the robot just made 'reloading' sounds.

R3-B4
This model is just a plastic toy I found on the floor of my garage that I decided to paint up. Looks really nice considering.

The Doc
A very nice miniature from Copplestone in a very badly taken photograph. This chap has yet to grace the gaming table, but Im sure he will before too long.

Waste-landers and Raiders [Part 3]
A Few more Post-Apocalyptic Miniatures.
A Local Big-Time Crime Lord, and his bodyguards.

This is a miniature from Foundry's Street Violence Range. Took me forever to build up the enthusiasm to paint this one. Not sure why. Its a lovely miniature.

Another Foundry Street Violence Miniature. I use it as Jesus the Second.

I have no idea where this miniature is from. I like it though.

A Necromunda Figure by Games Workshop. I've cut down the knife into a knuckle duster.

Waste-landers and Raiders [Part 1]
What sort of Post-Apocalyptic Nightmare would it be without ragedy looking Wasteland Dwellers?
Well, here are a few of mine.

A band of Raiders

A Raider. A Repainted HorrorClix figure. Im not a fan of rubbery figures, but I do really rather like this one.

Another Raider. Its converted from a Saxon.

This Raider has a bow. Its another Saxon.

Yet another Raider. This one is a model by GZG, with interesting armour and a nice gun. Very small though - 25mm to the eye, not that that matters really, because, you know, there are shorter people in the world.

This one is a Copplestone Miniature. Like every miniature that wonderful man produces, it is lovely. I must have two dozen of the things waiting to be painted. Rather looking forward to.

Finally, a chap with a shotgun and a big Oriental style hat. Its a miniature from EM4.

Enclave Extras
Hey All.
Today we have some Enclave Extras....
First up, a figure in Power Armour that I don't like all that much. Its a Nexus Swat Heavy Trooper with a weapon barrel swap.
Power Armoured Dude

Next, a pair of Gun-Drone Robots. They are 6mm E-100 Tanks from Navwar with EM-4 Sentry Guns on top. Nice simple models.
Sentry Gun Drones

Reaver McCuttlass
Today we have a pair of models that I am really very fond of.
When I started this project I intended to do a miniatures based Role-Playing Game before I changed my mind and started playing Necromunda instead.
As part of that I made a few model pairs - a model at its starting level, and another to use a fair few sessions in when its got all the kit and experience.

This particular pairing is of my Dog, Reaver.
The models themselves are unaltered models from Irregular Miniatures. They are not the best miniatures in the world, but they are cheap and fit the bill. I like them.

The first model shows her as a ....... Dog.
The second model shows her quite far into the campaign, with body armour, a visor and laser rifles!
