Shameless Plug - SALES

 photo XMASSALE_zps947beaeb.jpg

Hey Everyone,

For all you people out there on the internet who don't know me personalty, I've been stuck at home being unwell for some months now.

Ever the optimist, I've found an upside to this - I've been using the extra time to myself to sort though all of my stuff and put some of it up for sale.

So, yeah, buy my stuff if you feel like it!

Reading Show 2013 - The Haul

Hey 'The Internet',

I managed to make it along to the Reading Wargames show last Saturday. It was the same as it was last year. Plenty of shops and a array of demonstration, club and torment games on show.

I did a fair bit of shopping - so here my haul:

 photo DSCF2725_zps4b9cebd2.jpg

First up, I went to the Peter Pig stand and got everything that I needed to finish off my 15mm Polish Resistance project.

I got a pretty neat 'battle hardened' Pz.IV to round out the armoured options and some extra SS and French Resistance figures to make up the last few Infantry teams that I have missing.

As ever I got a little carried away and got myself some extra bits - some hand carts to go with my artillery pieces (to give them a 'ramshackle' feel) and some Pak-40 guns to replace the wrenched ones I currently have.

From the EM-4 stand I got myself some white D8 dice and a nice Bishop figure. The dice are to add to my 'white dice' collection that I am putting together for my secret project, and the Bishop is to go with my zombie-nuns that I painted during Zomtober.

I also visited the lovely chap at the Tumbling Dice stand, a terrible habit I have been suffering from for about 3 years. I went to him with the simple intention of getting two of his new 'HMS Shah' models to stand in as Russian heavy ironclad frigates - but that didn't work.

As it turned out, since I'd last seen him he'd brought out some fantastic mid-victorian French Ironclads. To cut a long story short, I walked away with my wallet far lighter, and with a whole new fleet to paint.

Central Asian Magnetism

Hey Internet,

Just a very quick update. This week I have cracked on with the worryingly enjoyable task of re-basing all of my colonial russian/khivan stuff. Getting to around the 60 figure mark now. I also painted four whole russians!

Slightly more interestingly, due to my immense irritation with bent bayonets,  I have gone from storing my figures in foam boxes to storing them in lined box files.

I started out by lining the boxes with steel paper and attaching base magnets to my models, but that did not work out. The base magnets doubled the thickness of the model's bases, amongst some other things.

 photo DSCF2176_zps6c954b0c.jpg

Rather grumpy that I had spent £20 on magnets that looked crap, I then found out that pennys are made of brazen steel rather than copper nowerdays, and are as a result magnetic! That meant I could just line the file boxes with cheap magnetic sheeting and they'd stick to it.....so that's what I did.

 photo DSCF2179_zpsc5ab872f.jpg

The magnetic attraction this way round isn't as good as having magnets on the models, but it is far cheaper and the models don't look awful, so its a winner on balance. The attraction isnt bad by any means though, as this photo shows they are happy to be lent on a 45 degree angle without any of them moving - so its plenty good enough to keep them safe on the back seat of a car.

Salute 2013 - The Haul

Hey Internet,
I made it to the Salute wargames show in London yesterday. Had a jolly good time, met up with some old wargameing friends who I’d not seen in a while, bought some stuff, stared longingly at a good lot more. Did miss my train back though (it was Dr. Steve’s falt!), but a very nice railway chap put us on the next one without charge – hurrah to him!
Anyway, here’s my haul from the show. I didn’t go with the intention of spending all that much, I spent about £60 in all. Anyway – Photos;

Everything together.
 photo DSCF2142_zps72c67bc5.jpg

The free Salute 2013 figure – Jason. Made of plastic (I don’t like plastic!), and all my other Argonoughts are 40mm. I’ll probably sell it on to someone who couldent make it to the show.

Polish Improvised armoured plough from Scheltrum Minitures. I just love this vehicle even though I don’t game that particular conflict. I’ll probably put it into survice as part of a post-apocaliptic army of some kind or another. On a sour note however, I bought one at the start of the show, but when I got it out when eating my lunch I realised that it was a total miss-cast, but the nice chaps on the stand swapped it for a nice one without any problem. Problem is that one of the wheels is missing off this one! I’ll send them an email or something.

I spent a good quarter of an hour chatting to the alchemist at the ‘Modelmates’ stand at the show. The company sells various weathering effect things – sprays, alcoholic pigments and inks. They were showing how it worked right in front of your very eyes at the show – and it worked bloody marvellously. I picked some up and am looking forward to giving it a go this afternoon.

I went to EM4 after that. Got some plastic bases. 40 for £2. Cheap as chips. Cheaper infact.

I also got 6 D12s for a set of naval rules that I am writing at the moment. £1.20.

I wondered over to Hasslefree Miniatures. Got myself a ‘Not- Ramona Flowers’ from ‘Scott Pilgrim’. I like Ramona. Everyone loves Ramona. As with all Hasslefree Miniatures the model is superbly sculpted and cast. She will soon be hitting things in the head in the far future.

I wondered past the Exodus Wars stand and this guy caught my eye. They only sold the figures in platoons, but the nice man on the stand opened the pack up and just sold me the sarge because it was near the end of the day. Not the best figure in the world, but I liked the look of it.

Finally, my only ‘big’ purchase of the show. £30s worth of 1/2400th scale Ironclads from Tumbling Dice. I treated myself to all of the new Royal Navy ships that he had, and got myself a French Fleet to put them up against.

Wells Club 21st February 2013: Fallout Failure

Hey Internet,

Just got back from my local war games club.

I had a go at using the Fallout PnP Skirmish/Role-play rules to run a small combat game. I'm not going to say much about it, but we wont be playing anything with those rules, ever again!

Too much division and cross referencing for my liking. Many a laugh was had though, at the expense of the rules.

Ah well, there is always next time!

Cutting Plasticard

Hey Internet,

For years, I have hated working with plasticard. I do a fair bit of scratch-building, but have always had to use balsa and other materials as I have always found plasticard damned near impossible to work with, in particular, cutting the damned stuff. For years I've hacked away at it with kitchen scissors, making any kind of precision work or clean result all but impossible.

But today, I stumbled upon this;

Needless to say, a minor revolution. I've been score-snapping acrylic for years - why the hell didn't I think to do it for humble plasticard?

Anyway, I feel like a fool for my years of ignorant plastic butchery, but am happy to have learned a new skill. I've already put it to good use, but that is a story for another post.

Why no posts?

Hey People,

What with Christmas happening and my life slowly falling to bits I haven't been doing much in the way of modelling recently. Will try to do something soon though, so that I have something to blog.

It'll be fine....

ARRRRRGRGRGRGRGRGRGRGRGRGRGRGRGGRRGrggrgrgrgrgrgrggrgrrgrggrrgrgrgrgrgrgrgrgrgrg………………….!

I had a great game at my local club in Wells last night – introduced two new players and had a great time.

I took my camera with me BUT forgot to put the SD card in before I left.

Then, today, went out and varnished today’s blog posts subjects – and they have frosted over all nasty like. It was a nice day out. Did everything the same as I always do (never had a failure like this before.)

Not happy at all.

My order from America is still trapped in customs until I pay the Royal Mails exorbitant charges for the privilege of paying the pittance of VAT that I owe Her Majesty.

BAD DAY

All quiet on the …..internet…… front?

Hey all.
I know that I have not put anything up here since the very start of the year and that’s for a good reason – I haven’t really painted or played anything in all that time. But why you might (but almost defiantly wont) ask?
Well, I’ve been selling things. Lots of things. I came to the conclusion that I had a massive amount of wargaming stuff that I would never actually get round to doing.

So, in case you are interested and what to help me get rid of my stuff ;

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

As I was sat on the sofa, drinking my Lemsip and trying not to infect the rest of my family, I realized that just about all the other blogs on my blog list have passed on their seasons greetings - so I should probably do the same.

"And God said, Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together unto one place
and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
And God called the dry land Earth;
and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas:
and God saw that it was good
And from the crew of Apollo 8,
we close with good night, good luck, a Merry Christmas,
and God bless all of you - all of you on the good Earth."

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!......My Brain

Hey All.

Im going to put off my weekly post as for the last three days (and counting) I have had a nasty, nasty mingrane. Im starting to finaly get better now, so I will probably post tomorrow evening. Yesterday, when people talked I could see colours in my eyelids from the pain! I had to wear sunglasses round the house. Anyway, yeah, by this time tomorrow I should have posted up nice pictures of my newly painted Norwegian Privates/ Russian Linesmen, Armoured Plow and the first of my test-painted Polish Home Army Flames of War teams.

Till then, ta-ta.

An apology, of sorts.

Hello people who read my blog. Sorry for the lack of posts over the last few weeks. I have been really rather unwell and had lots of ‘real life’ stuff get in my way. To cut a long and rather boring story short, I had to drop out of university and relocate 300 miles to rural Somerset for medical reasons. Now here however, I have plenty of time to paint and play little toy soldiers whilst I recover. I plan from now on to try and update this thing every week, most probably on a Friday evening.

Thanks for reading.
